Eco-friendly driving techniques to be assessed

Eco-friendly driving techniques to be assessed
People learning to drive are to be assessed on how environmentally-friendly their technique is.

Learner drivers will be tested on their efforts to conserve fuel and how their driving impacts the environment, Scotland on Sunday reports.

However, people will not fail if they do not meet the criteria but will instead receive information about how to improve their eco-performance.

According to the Driving Standards Agency, it is hoped the initiative will help to "encourage greener driving habits" among motorists.

"Driving in an eco-safe manner not only means safer driving but can also reduce air pollution," a spokesman remarked.

"We want learner drivers to understand that the way they drive can improve their safety, help them tackle carbon emissions and save them money," he added.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, recently said that the environmental performance of a vehicle has little bearing on the cost of car insurance.
