Nissan plans 'new safety technology'
People with car insurance cover may be interested to hear Nissan has revealed a series of new technological tools to help reduce collisions with other vehicles, which could see accident numbers fall.

According to What Car?, the manufacturer recently revealed in Yokohama a system which aims to prevent crashes when drivers pull out to overtake others.

The technology works in a similar way to many existing lane departure warning systems, with a warning light alerting the driver to vehicles which enter a person's blind spot.

However if the motorist fails to note the alert, another control applies the brakes to the relevant wheels through a stability-control system which pulls the car back into its lane, the publication claims.

In addition, the company is testing a system known as Back-up Collision Prevention which operates like traditional parking sensors but with a wider and longer range, the news provider added.

Should this technology be applied to Nissan's future vehicles, it could mean lower car insurance costs for those who own them as the features may help reduce the number of accidents on the road.

BMW recently revealed new safety features on its latest 7-Series model, such as a night vision system which can see further into the dark than the driver.
