Police: 'Prevention is better than cure'
Property owners are being warned it is better to take preventative measures to stop their houses being broken into rather than having to deal with the situation when it is too late, one police force has warned, something which could have an impact on home insurance costs.

According to the law enforcement body in Yeovil, people should secure their accommodation as far as is possible in order to stop themselves becoming victims of break-ins, the Yeovil Express reports.

The police made the plea after a series of walk-in burglaries in the area and now that summer is here, residents are being warned not to become complacent and leave themselves vulnerable to thieves.

"We all know that prevention is better than cure. We don't want people to have to go through the stress and inconvenience of a burglary. It is really simple to deter burglars by remembering that security begins at home," PC Brett Gitsham told the news provider.

Should residents in the area heed the police's warning, it could see the number of break-ins fall, which could have an impact on home insurance costs as it may see fewer claims made to policy providers.

Meanwhile, police in Leeds have warned elderly residents in the Middleton and Belle Isle areas of the city to beware of distraction burglaries, after three people had goods and money stolen.
