Police crackdown on speeders
Police in Scotland have issued warnings to more than a hundred motorists in an effort to improve levels of road safety.

During a weekend operation, Central Scotland police patrolled roads in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire targeting speeding motorists.

In total, 160 drivers were issued were warned about their driving behaviour, while 43 conditional offer penalties were awarded.

Sergeant Bob Murphy of the road policing unit said the operation was intended to be a "reminder" to motorists that "safety should be their top priority", as seven in ten fatal casualties take place on rural roads.

"Our operation was conducted with the education of motorists in mind, as well as enforcement measures where appropriate," he remarked.

Motorists receiving fixed penalties for speeding offences can receive points on their licenses, which can in turn affect their car insurance premiums.

Last week, Central Scotland police discovered an 18-year-old motorists travelling at 62mph along Forthside Way in Stirling, which has a 30mph speed limit.
