Warning issued to driving test 'impersonators'
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has issued a warning to people who impersonate others when sitting driving tests.

According to the DSA, the practice, which could impact car insurance premiums, will now prompt tougher sentencing from courts.

Commenting on the issue, Andrew Rice, head of fraud and integrity for the DSA, said addressing the issue was a "key priority" for the body as such people pose a "significant danger" to other road users.

"Through fraudulent and criminal means, impersonators gain entitlement to drive for those who are unable or unwilling to undertake the assessment to prove that they meet the required standard to drive on our roads," he stated.

The DSA re-iterated its stance on impersonations following the news that Palwinder Singh Johal had been prosecuted at Oxford crown court for falsely obtaining driving licenses by impersonating others.

In 2006-07, the DSA conducted more than 1.8 million practical tests for car drivers, while its 158 centres carried out 1.5 million theory tests.
