Check caravan cover, motorists warned

Check caravan cover, motorists warned
Motorists planning on taking a caravan holiday this summer as a way of saving money in the current difficult economic climate have been warned to check their car insurance policy to make sure they are covered.

Price comparison site Confused.com claims many consumers will opt for caravanning holidays in the coming months as a way of enjoying a relatively cheap break as their personal finances come under more pressure due to the economic slowdown.

Drivers are being warned that while most standard car insurance policies will cover caravans, they will only be protected on a third-party basis while being towed and motorists should therefore check the details of their policy to see what level of cover they have.

Simon Lamble, product director at the site, said people should check what their insurer will cover, including items inside the caravan.

"Caravanners are advised to check with their insurers that they will be covered for any trips, especially if they will be spending a lot of time in a designated holiday camp," he stated.

Tyre specialist Protyre recently claimed caravan owners should thoroughly check the state of the tyres on their vehicle before taking them on the road.
