Call to reduce alcohol limit for young drivers

Sir Liam Donaldson said in his annual report the move would be unpopular with novice drivers but could help make Britain's roads safer.
According to government statistics, more than 14 young drivers and their passengers die in motoring accidents every week and Sir Liam told the BBC inexperienced motorists are more likely to have an accident than an experienced driver even when they have not consumed any alcohol.
"We know that even without alcohol young people are more likely to have an accident because they are inexperienced drivers, and then even with them driving within the alcohol limit they are much more likely to have an accident than an older driver," he said.
Should the legal alcohol limit be reduced to zero it could result in fewer accidents on the road, which may in turn lead to cheaper car insurance premiums for young drivers.
In other news, Esther Shaw, from Fool.co.uk, claims novice motorists can save money on their car insurance by purchasing it online.
