Buying car insurance online 'saves money'
Young motorists looking to save money on their car insurance should look to purchase it online, one expert has claimed.

Esther Shaw, from Fool.co.uk claims novice drivers can take advantage of some additional benefits when they purchase their cover online.

"There are usually discounts and incentives on offer if you buy cover over the internet ... you can also make savings by opting to pay for your car insurance annually, rather than in monthly instalments," she said.

Young and inexperienced motorists looking at ways to save money on the cost of their insurance should take the Pass Plus test, which may reduce premiums by one-third, shop around comparing different quotes and improve the security features of their vehicles, Ms Shaw added.

Recent research by uSwitch.com found young drivers pay more than twice as much to insure their vehicles than other motorists do.

According to the study a novice driver pays around £989 for comprehensive cover while the average premium in the UK is £459.
