Motorists try to combat rising car finance costs
Motorists in Scotland are aiming to combat the rising costs of driving by increasing the extent to which they share cars with friends, family members and colleagues.

Rising fuel prices have caused a good deal of concern across the UK about the costs of running a car and these fears are seen as a major reason why car-sharing in Scotland has increased by close to 50 per cent in the past 12 months.

Securing a competitive deal on car insurance is another issue of serious concern to drivers north of the border and the desire to save money is having a notable impact on driving habits, the car-sharing network Loftshare.com reports.

Over 15,000 people from across the UK are thought to have joined the car-sharing scheme during June of this year alone.

A spokesperson for the Scottish government told Scotland on Sunday: "Car-sharing is one way individuals can reduce the number of cars on Scottish roads, in turn reducing carbon emissions which contribute to climate change."

Meanwhile, a report from car insurance provider Direct Line recently revealed that as many as 1.5 million British women have committed some kind of vehicle vandalism.
