Car crime 'down' in Manchester
Car Insurance News - Published: 30/06/2008

According to Home Office statistics, motorists in Manchester suffered 11,421 thefts from vehicles in the 12 months to April 2007, with Greater Manchester suffering 39,104, an increase of nine per cent, the Manchester Evening News reports.
More than 14,872 cars were stolen in the city, which is 12 per cent lower than the figure for the corresponding period the year before.
A spokesman for the police told the newspaper vehicle crime in the city is falling and advised motorists not to leave valuable items on show in their cars.
"We are continuing to reduce vehicle crime across Greater Manchester. Figures for 2007/8 show that vehicle crime was reduced by 19.1 per cent compared to 2006/7, and since April 1st, 2008, we have seen a drop of 12.1 per cent compared to the same period last year," the representative said.
Should vehicle theft and vandalism decrease, it could lead to drivers in Manchester benefiting from cheaper car insurance as there would be fewer claims made on policies.
Greater Manchester police recently called for car insurance premiums for drivers in the city to be reduced to reflect a fall in crime figures.
