Midlands and the north's 'high-risk' roads
Car Insurance News - Published: 30/06/2008

According to the Eurorap 2008: GB Tracking Survey, conducted by the Road Safety Foundation, 30 per cent of primary roads in the UK fail to rate as safe while a quarter of motorways are outside the safest band and the worst roads are to be found in the Midlands and the north.
The single-carriageway road between Macclesfield and Buxton, which stretches 13km, was named the most dangerous place to drive and has been the scene of 43 fatal or serious collisions since 2001.
According to Dr Joanne Hill, head of the foundation, financial assistance is needed to improve Britain's roads.
"The majority of road authorities this year identified the need for significant funding for road safety improvements and maintenance of existing roads as the one thing which would make the biggest difference to reducing fatal or serious collisions," she said.
Should funding be provided to improve roads, it could result in fewer accidents which could impact on the cost of car insurance.
The Road Safety Foundation was formed in 1986 by the UK Automotive Association and it claims it carries out and procures research into all factors regarding the wellbeing of motorists on Britain's roads.
