Young drivers warned over used cars

According to a survey by Trading Standards in conjunction with Hertfordshire Police, 62.5 per cent of low-priced, second-hand vehicles - the kind first-time drivers usually buy - were not safe to drive, according to What Car?
Peter Stratton, from the agency, claims the poor condition of some vehicles is a factor in the number of collisions on the road.
"The poor condition of vehicles is a common contributory factor in road traffic accidents and this new survey shows that there are a lot of death-trap vehicles on the market," he said.
Should fewer faulty cars be bought by novice motorists it could reduce the number of accidents involving them, which may help to reduce the cost of their car insurance cover.
A new report from uSwitch.com has found young drivers pay more than two times as much as other motorists do for their premiums.
