More than half have 'claimed on insurance'
New research has found more than half of drivers have had to make a claim on their car insurance policy.

According to a survey of motorists by price comparison site Insurance.co.uk, 30 per cent of those who have made a claim have done so on more than one occasion.

The research also revealed more than 18 million people in the UK do not believe they would pass their driving test should they be required to take it again, with 59 per cent of women and 46 per cent of men believing they would fail.

More than 73 per cent of drivers admitted to travelling faster than 70 mph on motorways while 48 per cent turn without signalling and 30 per cent undertake slower drivers, the study found.

Steve Grainger, head of the site, claims drivers must ensure they have a suitable car insurance policy if they have little faith in their abilities.

"When you can't even trust your own driving ability, you must be able to have faith in your car insurance policy. When you're looking for cover, don't just focus on getting the cheapest; make sure it's the right policy to suit your needs," he said.

A survey by Fairinvestment.co.uk recently found cost is the most important factor for people in the UK when it comes to choosing a car insurance policy.
