Police warn against car crime
Police in Northamptonshire are warning motorists to be aware after a spate of car crimes in the area.

Figures from the local police force show 4,305 vehicle crimes, which include stealing cars and theft of possessions from vehicles, have occurred between December last year and May 26th this year, which could cause a rise in car insurance costs, reports the Evening Telegraph.

Those concerned about their car insurance costs should take extra measures to stop the crime, the police have warned.

Superintendent Ivan Balhatchet, operations manager for the Northamptonshire north area, told the newspaper Operation Villain has been launched to try to reduce car crime levels.

He said: "Since we tasked Operation Villain with looking at this issue, we have made some arrests and there has been a drop in vehicle crime."

Satellite navigation systems are the target of many crimes, with 894 crimes in the area in the last financial year occurring because of the items.

The Hartlepool Mail reports thieves are striking cars which have the suction mark from the device on the windscreen.
