Police promises vehicle crime drop

Inspector Brian Cooper claims installing more surveillance apparatus on the Cowley Road area will reduce the amount of vehicle crime there, the Oxford Mail reports.
According to recent crime figures, theft and damage to vehicles on Cowley Road nearly doubled between January and March this year compared with the same period in 2007.
Inspector Cooper told the newspaper that many police resources are dedicated to the area and the increase in the number of CCTV cameras will allow the force to focus on different places.
"With CCTV on the Cowley Road we will be in a position to deploy those resources more, and I think that will have quite an impact on vehicle crime," he said.
Should the cameras deter thieves it could lead to motorists in the area benefiting from cheaper car insurance.
Last year, London was found to be the worst city in the UK for car crime, with four of its districts being named in the top ten list of hotspots.
