Compare premiums, says expert

According to Hayley Parsons from price comparison site Gocompare.com, drivers can make up the extra money spent on petrol by taking time to compare their renewal quote with what other providers offer and possibly save some money.
Research from the website has found the average person who drives a petrol-powered vehicle are £196 worse off than they were 12 months ago while they could save more than £222 if they take the time to search different providers.
"The case for switching car insurers is compelling enough at the best of times but with motorists facing increased costs you have to look to save money where you can," Ms Parsons stated.
Using an insurance comparison site is one of the easiest and effective ways of investigating whether cheaper cover is available, she added.
Recent research from uSwitch.com claims the average cost of running a car could reach £3,800 by 2009.
