Homeowners urged to protect shed contents

Homeowners urged to protect shed contents
Homeowners are being urged to make sure the contents of their garden sheds are covered by their home insurance policies as the summer months approach.

According to Confused.com, most products cover the items inside garden outhouses however some do not protect against thefts over the value of £1,000.

Simon Lamble, product director at the price comparison site, claims burglaries from sheds increase significantly during the summer as homeowners spend more time in their gardens and fail to secure their sheds properly.

He urged consumers to take into account what they keep in their shed and factor that in to any decision about insurance.

"It is imperative that, when taking out home insurance policies, homeowners consider the contents of their sheds, garages and any other outbuildings, and insure them accordingly," Mr Lamble said.

Consumers can also reduce the chances of being burgled by investing in padlocks and flood lights for their gardens, the site stated.

Peter Gerrard, head of research at moneysupermarket.com recently encouraged homeowners to read the key facts of insurance policies to make sure they are covered in all areas they require.
