Disrespecting lollipop ladies could affect car insurance
Motorists who disrespect or ignore the authority of lollipop ladies could risk having three penalty points on their licence which in turn could lead to car insurance premiums going up.

Car magazine Auto Express followed lollipop ladies in the Westminster area and found them to be victims of abuse and road rage from drivers.

This is despite the fact a lollipop lady's sign has the same legal status as a red traffic light.

In its research, the magazine found workers who had been driven around by angry motorists as well as being sworn at and ignored by cars and cyclists.

"That's all in spite of the fact that a lollipop sign has the same legal power as a red light. Failure to take notice can result in a £1,000 fine plus a three-point penalty on your licence," the motoring publication said.

Drivers who incur penalty points on their licence are likely to be hit with higher car insurance premiums.

In 2007, Confused.com found insurance costs could increase by as much as 25 per cent if a motorist incurs points on their licence.
