Consumers still want cars, despite credit crunch

Kirk Fletcher, managing director of the automotive division at Experian, states that although consumer confidence has been affected by the recent downward economic trend, people are still eager to purchase a new car.
However, people could be advised to still look for the most competitive car insurance premiums to help them save money as Experian states this car-buying trend could be leading people into debt.
"Despite the rising costs of living and the spiralling costs of running a car, a third of UK adults admit to being influenced by how people perceive them and would most likely get themselves into debt just to give the impression that they are wealthy," the company states.
Research produced by the company also reveals that men are more likely to develop car-generated debt than women.
Earlier this month, Experian urged car dealers to comply with a new EU directive that requires consumers to be supplied with sufficient information on a product to allow them to make an informed decision when making a purchase.
