Brokers 'can help with home contents policies'
Insurance brokers can be useful to those wading through the details of home insurance policies, according to one expert.

Graeme Trudghill, the technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), said that the increasingly comprehensive nature of home and contents insurance policies can make it difficult for people to secure the best cover.

Mr Trudgill explains that a broker "would be the best person to advise individual customers [on what cover they need] depending on individual circumstance".

The technical and corporate affairs executive mentions accidental damage as one factor that can increase the complexity of an insurance policy.

He also adds that insurers can now be blamed for including "too many frills" in the home insurance packages that they make available.

Research carried out by financial website Fool.co.uk shows that 39 per cent of people do not know how much insurance cover they have and that 60 per cent of respondents dislike insurance.

Biba represents a number of occupations in the insurance sector - including insurance brokers and intermediaries - as well as consumers.
