Honest people pay the price for fraudsters

Honest people pay the price for fraudsters
An industry figure has claimed that the cost of fraudulent insurance claims is paid by honest consumers by way of increased premiums.

David Kuo, from Fool.co.uk, said that false claims impact upon the price of everyone else's cover and it is therefore not the victimless crime many believe it to be.

Mr Kuo said bogus claims filter through the system and eventually the cost of it will be reflected in higher costs for car or home insurance as well as other forms of protection.

"When people submit fraudulent claims they are doing themselves out of money because next year everybody in the area will have to pay that little bit more to cover for last year's claims," he said.

According to a research by the Association of British Insurers, between March 2006 and March 2007, 11 per cent of adults in the UK had committed insurance fraud in the previous 12 months.
