Price comparison site Gocompare.com, which allows consumers to evaluate different products on the market, such as car and home insurance, has been given membership to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba).

Following a review of the company's practice, Biba feels that the site's philosophy of providing customers with insurance information specifically based on the consumer's suitability as well as price is in line with its desire to see aggregators provide clear and fair information.

Eric Gilbraith, chief executive of Biba, said comparison website technology had left regulations behind which could be detrimental to consumers.

He praised Gocompare.com for its approach to providing clear and relevant information.

"Gocompare.com is leading the comparison sites by helping consumers receive clearer information on the policies they are purchasing and how they meet their needs," Mr Gilbraith said.

A recent report by Defaqto claimed that many price comparison sites needed to improve the way they operate.
