James and William could pay more for car insurance
A new study has found that males with the name James or William are more likely to have a driving conviction which could result in higher car insurance premiums.

Research from Confused.com found that Joshuas and Alfies are the safest motorists, with nine per cent and six per cent having been penalised for driving offences respectively.

For women, those with the name Ella were found to be the most reckless, with over one in ten falling foul of driving laws.

Debra Williams, managing director at the price comparison site, said that while safety is an issue when it comes to driving crime, car insurance cover will also be affected by repeated offences.

"Gaining points on your licence also has a detrimental effect on your insurance premiums. On average, a driver with three points will see premiums leap seven per cent, rising to 25 per cent for six points and 50 per cent for nine points," she said.

Speeding accounts for around 40 per cent of all driving violations in the UK.
