"Don't just accept" increased premiums

Car Insurance News - Published: 19/05/2008
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) is advising motorists whose car insurance premiums have been increased to shop around for a better deal.

According to Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for the association, consumers who do incur more expensive premiums should contact their broker who can search for better alternatives.

Mr Trudgill revealed that the insurance industry has been operating at a loss in recent years and that price increases are inevitable.

"They've got to put the rates up but our advice is always that if your insurance premium goes up then don't just accept it. Call your insurance broker and they will deal with a panel of many insurers and look around them all and find you the best deal," he stated.

Factors such as age and location also influence the cost of cover and Mr Trudgill advised drivers to make their provider aware of any changes to their circumstances.

A recent survey by Sainsbury's Bank revealed that up to 1.15 million people in the UK have driven without insurance over the last 12 months.
