Online shopping for car insurance increases
The number of people purchasing online car insurance has increased, new research has found.

According to a survey by comScore, the number of people buying their insurance cover online since the third week of March was 15 per cent, up three per cent from the previous year.

Kevin Litt, the vice-president of the internet monitoring site, said that a shift away from brokers to the internet showed a change in the insurance market playing field.

"While it still remains the primary method, these latest findings show us that the landscape is beginning to change, with more and more consumers turning from traditional, offline channels to the internet," he said.

The report also found that more people are beginning their research on the internet after seeing an advertisement concerning car insurance, rather than speaking to a broker.

By keeping proprietary databases comScore provides measurements and data concerning the different ways the internet is used.
