Research by Sainsbury's Bank has revealed that those aged between 17 and 24-years-old were the most likely to offend, with 454,000 admitting to the act.
Those between the ages of 25 and 34-years-old followed with 354,800 confessing, representing five per cent of people in their age group.
In geographical terms, residents of London were most likely to drive uninsured, with 323,900 saying they had done so over the last year.
The south-west and Wales followed with 310,700, while Yorkshire and Humberside came in third with 150,142 people.
