ABI: Government needs to do more
Published: 08/05/2008

Nick Starling, the ABI's director of general insurance, said that the plans to introduce a more thorough driving test, coupled with school lessons in road safety, were a positive first step.
He stated that the association will work with the government to help educate young drivers to mature into sensible road users.
"We are pleased that the government has listened to our concerns, and these proposals are a good first step. However, more action is needed to save young lives, particularly around a structured minimum learning period and passenger restrictions," he said.
Further testing of young drivers could help reduce the number of accidents which in turn could help lower the cost of car insurance.
Traffic accidents are the single biggest killer of people aged between 15 and 24-years old, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
