Government plan is a 'step in the right direction'

Ruth Kelly, the transport secretary, said the government wishes to concentrate its efforts on ensuring more stringent learning and testing of new motorists.
A spokesperson for price comparison site Moneysupermarket.com, claims that young people will benefit from the proposals, both in terms of fewer accidents and cheaper premiums.
"With newly qualified drivers facing the highest insurance premiums, any course of action from the government to drive down the cost of cover and reduce accidents and injuries on the road is a step in the right direction," the spokesperson said.
They went on to say that males especially could benefit as they have to live with the boy racer tag and pay more than females.
Recently qualified drivers are twice as likely to make an insurance claim as experienced motorists.
