ABI calls for drainage system improvements
Home Insurance News - Published: 06/05/2008

According to the ABI, currently 80,000 properties in the UK are at risk from flooding due to the poor drainage facilities in place at the moment.
The body went on to say that two-thirds of the damage wreaked by last summer's floods was caused by surface water.
In a move to prevent further damage, the ABI wants the government to rethink the current conditions and save people money and distress.
"A detailed assessment of the risk posed from heavy rainfall and where improvements are needed, a more co-ordinated approach and, crucially, adequate investment is the only way we can haul Britain's Victorian drainage systems into the modern day," Justin Jacobs, head of property at the ABI, said.
It is estimated that around 6,000 homes in Britain suffer from sewage flooding.
Flooding causes around £1 billion worth of damage per year, according to the Environment Agency.
