Uninsured driving not seen as a "serious crime"

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at BIBA, claims that a lack of government interest has led people to believe they can get away with it.
He highlighted the fact that a fine for driving without insurance was much lower than the cost of the insurance itself and that fines fail to act as a deterrent.
"The government has never come out with a campaign saying that uninsured driving is bad. People just don't see it as a serious crime, they think they can pay £500 in insurance, or drive without it and if they get caught, pay a £100 fine," he said.
A recent survey by comparison site MoneyExpert.com, recently found that drivers between the ages of 18 and 24-years-old were most likely to drive without insurance.
