Cheapest not always the best
Published: 30/04/2008

The cheapest cover available may not protect the consumer enough when it comes to a legal dispute, Kelly Ostler-Coyle, a spokesperson from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) told Moneyhighstreet.com.
Consumers should consider factors such as the level of cover provided and also urged shoppers to scrutinise the small print of any policy.
"When you are taking out your home insurance you don't just want to go for the cheapest. You want to say, 'Does it include legal cover? Does it have all risk extension fees so you're covered for your items when you're outside the home?" she told the site.
She also stressed that cheaper cover does not always provide legal cover and might not cover all the belongings in a person's home.
The ABI informs and participates in debates and issues in the British insurance industry and represents its interests.
