A quarter of motorists incur rise in premiums

A quarter of motorists incur rise in premiums
Over 25 per cent of drivers have incurred a rise in their car insurance bill as new figures show that the costs of premiums have increased by up to six per cent.

The average price of cover was found to be £682 by comparison site MoneyExpert.com.

Sean Gardner, from the site, believes that motorists should shop around for another quote as opposed to just accepting the increased charges.

The survey found that 28 per cent of drivers accepted the more expensive quote, while 30 per cent transferred to another provider.

"It is worrying that when faced with an increase in car insurance premiums of more than double the rate of inflation so many drivers just shrug their shoulders and accept it. Rising insurance costs are one problem you can at least try to steer clear of," Mr Gardner said.

Around 14 per cent of respondents saw no increase in their premiums, while 17 per cent saw their quotes go down.

MoneyExpert.com compares products such as credit cards, loans, savings accounts and insurance for consumers.
