Weekend drivers told to be vigilant
'Sunday' drivers have been advised to plan their excursions carefully in order to reduce the number of accidents and in turn reduce the cost of car insurance premiums.

According to new research by price comparison site Confused.com, around 62 per cent of people drive for up to 20 miles on Sundays, with those from the big cities the keenest.

The survey found that 69 per cent of motorists from Sheffield drove out of the city on Sundays, while the number of people who escaped Belfast was 85 per cent.

Debra Williams, managing director of the site, said careful planning and driving was could result in fewer accidents and have a knock-on effect on insurance premiums.

"Planning your route, allowing extra time and taking into consideration elements such as the great British weather, should result in less accidents and a reduction in convictions which will, in turn, help to reduce premiums," she said

New car sales in the UK increased by 0.5 per cent in March, according to recent data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
