More cars being written off

More cars being written off
People are now more likely to claim on their car insurance, as vehicles are more prone to being written off than ever before.

Due to growing technological sophistication and fast depreciation, cars which are only involved in relatively minor collisions are being written off, according to Easier Motoring.

Features which make a write off more likely are airbags and air conditioning systems, as they are hard and more costly to repair.

Insurers are now trapped between increasing repair costs and a high level of total loss claim settlements.

Mark Norman, operational development manager, said that today's used cars are worth much less than a decade ago, despite new technological advancements.

"A three-year-old Ford Focus 1.6 LX today is worth exactly the same in pound notes as a three-year-old 1600 LX Escort was 12 years ago," he added.

In related news, it was recently reported that fraudulent claims, as a result of fabricated accidents, are pushing up insurance premium prices.
