Driver with 51 convictions is jailed
A motorist, who has 51 convictions for driving without insurance, has been jailed for eight months and banned for five years for driving while disqualified.

Jamie Manderson received his first ban in 1988 at the age of 15 and also has a criminal record for dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle-taking.

His solicitor said that Mr Manderson, who ten years ago hit a cyclist as he was driving a getaway car from a robbery, was a 'likeable idiot'.

Sentencing took place in the offender's home town of Swindon and Sergeant Joe Saunders, from Wiltshire police's northern roads policing unit, hoped it would deter him in the future.

"The manner of his driving witnessed in the past has shown his blatant disregard for the law and court decisions. This disregard for the law and people's safety is something we take very seriously," he said.

Uninsured drivers increase the price of insurance premiums for honest drivers, according to the British Insurance Brokers Association.
