Rising premiums forcing people off the road
An increase in car insurance premiums is one reason why people are using their cars less, a new report has found.

Research carried out by Money Expert.com found that higher premiums came second to rising petrol costs as the main reason why 25 per cent of drivers use their car less.

The survey revealed that those who struggle the most are over the age of 55, with 29 per cent saying they can no longer afford to run a car.

Sean Gardner of MoneyExpert.com said: "Petrol costs are high but the single biggest outlay a driver has to account for is their insurance premium."

Figures from the advice website show that 5.9 million people have changed their car insurance provider within the last six months.

The news comes after price comparison site uSwitch.co.uk revealed that many drivers were paying too much for their car insurance, as a result of not shopping around for the best deal.
