Drivers clock up 500,000 miles
Britons are enjoying a love affair with their cars, clocking up more than 500,000 miles over the course of their lives.

Between the ages of 17 and 75, motorists cover enough distance to lap the globe 20 times, a poll by Confused.com, a price comparison website, revealed.

Every year, they put on an average of 9,000 miles.

"We all have to get from A to B but it's amazing to see how many miles we clock up in our lifetimes," said Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com.

"The survey shows just how much we all rely on our cars for transport and demonstrates how integral cars have become in our day to day lives."

Driving alone was popular, with two thirds of respondents saying they liked to use the time to think about life issues.

A similar proportion of people admitted that when they drove with their partners, they argued.
