'Mirroring' offers big savings
Insurance companies that allow customers to 'mirror' their no-claims discount when they buy a second car are offering their customers big savings.

That is the finding of research by moneysupermarket.com, a price comparison website.

It revealed that a 30-year-old woman could save up to £320 on her insurance premium on a Vauxhall Astra if her insurer allows her to mirror her partner's no-claims discount.

"It is a little known fact that many insurers now allow you to mirror your no claims discount from one car to the next," said Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com.

"The most common question on our forums is 'why can't I use my no claims discount on two cars?' It is a good question and thankfully one that more and more insurers are starting to wake up to."

Moneysupermarket.com revealed that ten leading car insurance providers are split on mirroring, with half offering it and half not. Other insurers either apply conditions or assess claims on a case-by-case basis.
