Households under pressure from rising energy bills
Published: 07/03/2008

A poll by Moneysupermarket.com, a price comparison website, found that 95 per cent of customers were unhappy about recent fuel price rises.
"People are quite rightly getting hot under the collar at the prospect of average annual bills of over £1,000, but barely any of us should be paying that much," said Scott Byrom, utilities manager at Moneysupermarket.com.
"The best tariffs for medium users of gas and electricity in each of Britain's 14 regions vary from £739 in South East England to £787 in South Wales - or just over £2 a day - which shouldn't get anyone too steamed."
Higher energy costs are just one of the reasons why households are struggling.
The floods last summer are likely to see home insurance premiums rise this year, while mortgage repayments and food bills are also getting more expensive.
