Consumers told to keep tabs on the car insurance market
Consumers are being advised to check their car insurance in light of a changing industry which is seeing an array of different policies emerge.

Rising costs in the industry have seen the average car insurance premium go up by six per cent in the last year, with motorists looking at those policies that can deliver what they want at the right cost.

And, for drivers, experts say there are two clear options if the status quo is not to their liking – amend their existing policy or switch provider.

Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch.com, said the advent of the new '08' car registration plates, due to hit the roads next week, meant it was important that now more than ever people considered if they were getting the right policy.

"Whatever people decide to do, now is the perfect time for motorists to make sure they are shopping around for the best insurance policy before they buy their new car to avoid any nasty surprises," he commented.

He also advised motorists to check the small print of any car insurance policy – ensuring they had the right policy for them as well as a cost effective one.
