Homeowners told to check their policy

Homeowners told to check their policy
Homeowners are being urged to check out their contents and make sure they have the best policy available.

The advice comes from a comparison site after anecdotal evidence suggested that many people simply leave their policy intact from the day it is signed without considering changes to their home environment.

And, with Britons accumulating ever more expensive gadgets and applications – whether it be the new flat screen television or a dishwasher – experts say we should keep an eye on our contents.

Michelle Slade, analyst at Moneyfacts.co.uk, commented: "Whilst many people shop around for cheaper car insurance when it comes up for renewal, they tend to be more apathetic when it comes to insuring their most valuable asset, their home.

"If your contents are under-insured, you could find yourself severely out of pocket should you need to make a claim."

Britons have seen their homes come under threat from an increasing array of sources, with the devastating effects of recent flooding leading many to turn to check their claims
