Specialist insurers not always cheaper
Car Insurance News - Published: 05/02/2008

Research undertaken by price comparison website moneysupermarket.com shows ordinary providers can sometimes provide better deals.
For example, a 30-year-old woman with a typical Ford Focus, Astra, or Renault Megane will find the cheapest women-only brands quoting her an average of £269.
This is 55 per cent more than ordinary mainstream providers that quoted an average of £174.
Richard Mason, from the website, said: "Motorists shouldn't only rely on specialist insurers no matter what specialist group they may be in it pays to scour the market for the best cover to suit your needs.
"With specialist providers such as Sheilas Wheels also entering the home insurance market, there is even more onus on consumers to shop around for the best price and cover."
Meanwhile, younger drivers may find their choice of insurer restricted to specialists, with the news that some companies are pulling out of the teenage market altogether.
It is thought that insurers have pulled the plug on these contracts because sky-high accident rates in the 17-24 age group have made the business unprofitable.
