An integral part of the collaboration will be the yearly Brit Insurance Design of the year awards.
The first exhibition will be displaying the 100 short-listed designs opening at the south bank museum on February 13th.
The winners of the seven different design categories on show in the exhibition will be displayed at an awards ceremony on March 18th.
Some examples of the designs are the new Fiat 500, in the transport category, Muji's wind up radio (product category) and Peter Saville's Kate Moss brand logo (graphics).
Dejan Sudjic, director of the Design Museum, said: "We are delighted to be working with Brit Insurance to make possible what will be one of the key parts of the Design Museums programme for the future."
Chief executive of Brit Insurance, welcoming the partnership, said that there was a "very clear link between good design and the management of risk" which was vital to the business.
Brit Insurance is based in London and has regional offices supporting brokers in Birmingham, Bristol, Darlington, Glasgow, Ilford, Reading, Leeds and Manchester.
