Two million risk invalidating insurance

Two million risk invalidating insurance
Two million drivers are risking invalidating their car insurance by not wearing a seatbelt.

Pollster YouGov has undertaken research, which shows that although 25 years has passed since the introduction of the seatbelt law, many drivers are still gambling with their lives by not buckling-up.

In addition to drivers invalidating their insurance by not belting-up, passengers who are injured in a crash whilst not wearing a seatbelt could also find compensation is reduced, even if the driver of the vehicle they are in is not to blame.

Martin Milliner from insurer LV= said: "Whilst it is the passengers’ own responsibility to make sure they are properly buckled up, drivers should also ensure that this is happening, as much for their own safety as the passengers.

"Many passengers said they forgot to belt up when in the back of a car so a timely reminder from the driver before setting off could save the lives of family and friends travelling in their vehicle."

Fines for not wearing a seat belt could total as much as £500.
