Young drivers may risk no insurance
Published: 01/02/2008

Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers (ABI), says that the cost and availability of insurance for young drivers "is an issue".
He goes on to say that the reason some insurers feel unable to offer them cover is simply down to the fact that they are much more likely to put in claims, which he says, tend to be far more expensive than the average.
Mr Tarling adds: "They are not prevented from driving on their parents insurance, they can be occasional users if they are defrauding the insurance company by actually being the main user then that has always been fraud and that could cause problems if a claim arises."
It is not all bad news however, as young drivers may still be able to get a reasonable quote if they take the trouble to shop around for specialist insurers, some of whom may charge premiums, for example, based on miles driven.
