Liberty International Underwriters (LIU) has appointed a new claims chief responsible for the European operation.

The company has announced that John McCammon will head up the claims department.

Mr McCammon joins Liberty from Sagicor, where he was also in charge of claims and prior to that he spent 12 years with Gerling.

He will be based in Liberty's London office.

Sean Rocks, chief executive of LIU in Europe told the Post magazine that delivering the best claims service was "a core part" of their service and was delighted to welcome Mr McCammon on board who he describes as "a claims practitioner of the highest quality".

Mr McCammon added: "LIU is a fast growing business developing a reputation as one of the best insurers of specialty lines.

"Claims are one of the key differentiators when it comes to choosing an insurance provider and I am looking forward to further improving and developing the service we deliver to brokers and their clients."

LIU Europe is the trading name of Liberty Mutual Insurance Limited - a separately capitalised legal entity, regulated by the Financial Services Authority and a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Mutual Group.
