BIBA alert for motorists
Published: 04/01/2008

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) is warning drivers they risk having their vehicles stolen if leaving them unattended with keys still in ignitions while waiting for windscreens to defrost.
It calculates that there have been well over 100,000 of these types of thefts over the last five years.
As most insurance policies now have a specific 'keys in car' or 'vehicle left unattended' clause motorist will not be able to claim for losses.
BIBA is also warning motorists to be prepared for any eventualities when setting out on journeys in bad weather.
Graeme Trudgill, from BIBA, said: "At this time of year, motorists often embark on journeys in their cars during extreme weather conditions.
He concluded by saying that he would urge motorists to check they had all the right equipment when travelling and adequate insurance cover in the event of an accident.
