Watch your speed
Published: 03/01/2008

Price comparison website insurancewide.com has produced a 'winter driving guide' for drivers just as car insurance companies are bracing themselves for the annual flood of claims around this time of year.
Perils that can catch out motorists include icy roads and poor visibility.
It advises motorists, if driving in wintry conditions, to stay in a high gear to aid braking, as well as staying a good distance away from the car in front.
Also motorists should try to avoid braking or accelerating suddenly as this could induce a wheel spin.
If drivers do find themselves skidding they should try to resist the temptation to change direction and brake quickly.
Insurancewide.com advises, in this instance, to ease slowly off the accelerator and brake gently.
It also issues a warning to drivers not to leave keys in ignitions if leaving their cars unattended while defrosting windscreens.
This could invalidate car insurance policies.
