Fuel protesters plan weekend action

Fuel protesters plan weekend action
Protesters are planning to take action over the weekend to highlight their case for reduction in fuel prices.

Transaction 2007, a consortium of farmers and road hauliers, will stage demonstrations at oil refineries and petrol stations across Britain and Ireland.

This comes seven years after the country was brought to a standstill by a series of protests.

In a statement, Transaction said its latest action would take place at a series of undisclosed locations at 10:00 on Saturday December 15th.

"Transaction 2007 is working together with and for, the UK's transport and farming fraternity," the group said.

"We believe that it is not just about farmers and hauliers. Every motorist has a right to cheaper or more affordable fuel."

Recent increases in the price of oil - driven by uncertainty in key oil-producing regions and demand from emerging economies - have led to petrol breaking the £1 per litre barrier.

While this will, of course, hit private motorists in the pocket, haulage firms and small businesses running fleets of vehicles are hardest hit.
