Motorists show loyalty to insurance providers

Car Insurance News - Published: 27/11/2007
British motorists are showing a degree of loyalty to their insurance provider, according to new research.

Figures from the price comparison site, TescoCompare.com, showed that less than one-third of drivers had switched provider in the last 12 months.

In fact, ten per cent of respondents had never switched, while close to half (43 per cent) had been with the same provider for three years.

"Our research shows that there are a great proportion of motorists out there who aren't searching for the best deal for their car insurance and who are instead staying with their current car insurance provider," said Peter Dingle, managing director at TescoCompare.com.

Many of those motorists who remained with the same insurance company were less worried about price.

Only around half of the more loyal customers said premium price was their primary consideration.

"It seems that these people are the ones valuing policy features and the level of cover provided above the cheapest policy available," Mr Dingle added.

"This suggests that the majority of motorists are more concerned with getting the right cover for their individual needs, than getting the cheapest price."
